Custom Fit Care: Personalized care with compassion and dignity

Coaching

I am certified by the American Caregiver Association in the teaching of Activities of Daily Living. Some examples of these include:

Activities of daily living (ADLs) refer to basic tasks that individuals perform to help them maintain their independence. These tasks include but are not limited to:

Basic ADLs:

  • Dressing: Selecting and putting on appropriate clothing.
  • Toileting: Using the bathroom and maintaining continence.
  • Mobility: Moving around the home, such as walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Eating: Feeding oneself, including preparing and consuming meals.
  • Bathing: Maintaining personal hygiene through showering or bathing.

Instrumental ADLs (IADLs):

  • Meal preparation: Planning, cooking, and serving meals.
  • Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean and organized living environment.
  • Laundry: Washing, drying, and folding clothes.
  • Shopping: Obtaining groceries and other necessary items.
  • Managing finances: Paying bills, budgeting, and investing.

These tasks are essential for maintaining independence and quality of life. Individuals may require assistance with ADL’s due to age, illness, or disability.

How do you teach these skills?

First, we do an assessment of your ADL’s. There is a fillable form available that you can fill out, save, and then send to me in an email. If you are unable to do this, we will fill it out during our first coaching session.

After assessing your skills, I use methods like breaking skills down into smaller steps, using visual aids, helping you establish routines, offering positive reinforcement, and eventually turning things over to you to plan and problem-solve so you know you can do it! This process is very focused on your needs and how you learn best.
